Meet Our Doctors

Danny R. Walker, D.V.M.

Dr. Walker grew up in Martin, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. Hi is a 1979 graduate of Auburn University in veterinary medicine. He has been in practice for thirty years in Jackson. Dr. Walker is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners where he has a special interest in feline medicine. Dr. Walker has been married to his wife Susie, a retired professor of nursing for over thirty five years. They have two sons, Matthew and Lee Taylor and his wife Erin. They have two pets, Ollie a Yorkshire Terrier and Amarillo a Lab mix. Dr. Walker and His wife are active members of the Skyline Church of Christ where he served as elder and deacon for over twenty years. In his time away form work, he enjoys taking trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and watching his sons coach tennis at the University of Memphis.

 



James Russell, D.V.M

Dr. Russell is a 1986 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. He grew up in Pickett County Tennessee attending Tennessee Technological University as an undergraduate. He has been in practice at Jackson Animal Clinic since 1989. He is married to Dr. Nichols and they have three children (Ryan, Haley and Hannah), two dogs (Buckey and Patch), and two cats (Harry and Lucy). He is active in his church where currently serves as head of the youth ministry team. His hobbies include doing activities with the church youth, minor construction projects, attending sporting events, playing basketball, boating and fishing. Dr. Russell enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, surgery and preventative care. He has a special interest in various orthopedic procedures.



Cindy Schmidt, D.V.M.

Dr. Schmidt has been a part of the Jackson community since 1991. She completed her DVM from The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and joined Jackson Animal Clinic soon after graduation. Dr. Schmidt earned her bachelors degree in Nursing from Loma Linda University in 1983. While practicing small animal medicine, she has special interest in exotic and avian medicine. She is married and has two adult sons. When not working, Dr. Schmidt enjoys backpacking, bicycling, reading, and knitting.



Lee Nichols, D.V.M.

Dr. Lee Nichols was born and raised in Jackson Tennessee. Her parents, Burruss and Mary Alice, are still very active in the community. Dr. Nichols received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal Science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1984 and graduated form the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. She is married to Dr. Russell and they have three children, Ryan, Haley, and Hannah. They also have four pets: a Golden Retriever named Buckey, a mixed breed named Patch, and two cats named Harry and Lucy. Dr. Nichols is an active member of Northside United Methodist Church where she serves on the youth ministry team and was able to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua in 2008. She also participates in many school activities for her children at the University School of Jackson. Her hobbies include going to the lake and UT ball games. At work, Dr. Nichols enjoys soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.



Dr. Richard Steed D.V.M.

Dr. Steed is a 1986 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. He has been in private practice for twenty-three years. He and his wife enjoy spending time on their farm caring for their horses and taking week-end trips on their motorcycles. Dr. Steed is very active in his church, where he serves as a Deacon and enjoys teaching classes. Dr. Steed enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, especially exploratory surgery and referral cases.
